Moving With Your Pet

From across town to across the country, moving can be a very happy, yet stressful time for both people and animals.

Follow these tips during your big move to help keep your pet happy, healthy, and as stress-free as possible.

Several weeks before your move

Take your pet to the vet!

o  Talk about your pets current health.

  o  Refill any necessary medications.

o  Get copies of vet records and paperwork for your new vet.

o  Talk about possible medication for anxiety, motion sickness, etc.

o  Have your pet micro-chipped or get the information from their current chip.

Update your pet tag

Plan your pets travel needs

o  Keep the following handy  -  vet records, medicines, food, bedding, and toys

o  Bring an item or two with your scent on them.  (Shirt, blanket, jacket, etc.)

o  Determine your travel plans.  Crate, pet friendly rest areas, pet friendly hotels, etc.

In your new home

Introduce your pet at their own pace, if they need time keep some doors closed and introduce them slowly.

Take your dog on a walk as soon as possible to let them explore their new surroundings.

Your cat may need some quiet time... make sure they have a place to hide.

Double check to make sure your pet is eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom as they normally would.

Hopefully these tips and tricks can help make the transition easier on both you and your pet!
